Setbacks Happen

Mets, mets mets. Quack has mets in his lungs. We found out My 2nd. His chemo (carboplatin) didn’t control the spread of cancer. He didn’t get kicked out of the study as it turns out but he moved to the “salvage” group. That doesn’t sound very nice does it? He started immunotherapy with ADXS31-164. This is a a modified listeria virus that “expresses a chimeric human HER2/neu fusion protein”. Hopefully this will teach Quack’s body to attack his tumor cells. Currently Quack is recovering at Cornell after receiving his first dose of ADXS31-164. Last night his oncologist sent me the nicest picture of Quack laying down with his head in the lap of his vet student. I can’t wait to go pick up Quack today. He will get immunotherapy again in 3 weeks and then again 3 weeks after that.  Hopefully this works!

  1. What we have to remember, as hard as it is, none of this means squat to Quack! The adorable Quack is feeling just fine!

No, the “salvage” -group is not exactly….er….an empowering phrase!

So let’s give that amazing group of winners a new name!! And I think we should make Quack the Team Captain of the newly formed QUACKS VICTORIOUS TEAM!! We, as his A fan Club, shall be their personal PEAK PERFORMANCR CHEERLEADERS😉

And oh my goodness….that picture…..smooching that mug!😚 Just love this dog!

    Extra hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

  2. Oh Jeez,

So sorry to hear that he has Mets. My Cookie has had 2 chemos and I worry about the same thing. Its great though that the new vaccine is NOT ruled out. I was told No Vaccine if mets are found.

Please keep us updated as far as how the vaccine may help kill the METS!!

    Regards.

    1. Hi, Initially we were told if he developed mets the chemo would stop (since its not working) and he’d get the vaccine. Then we were told he would be out of the study if he developed mets but I think we misunderstood he just moves into a different group. In the pilot study 18 dogs who didn’t develop mets were in the main group but they also had 5 dogs in the “compassionate” group who developed mets.

      1. I’m am Praying for you and Quack.

I’m am so glad he at least gets the vaccine.” NO” should NOT be a word when it comes to who can and cannot get it!!

  3. Sorry to hear this news, but now things get interesting. Quack is a young, otherwise healthy dog with newly identified mets. We know the vaccine can help kill the mets we can’t see. Let’s find out whether the vaccine can kill those we can see.

We’re all rooting for you Quack.

    1. My husband said the same thing, we know the chemo even if it works doesn’t cure this, but the immunotherapy is the best hope anyway.

  4. My thoughts and my heart are with you all.
I’m jumping on the Team Quacks train and I’m praying that you receive remission from this piece of crap disease.
    Peace and hugs to you,
    Jackie and Huckleberry ❤️

  5. Fight on Quack! You are in the BEST hands to help those nasty mets go away. We are here for you buddy, so let us know what’s going on.

    xoxo
